April Lancit's Journey to Founding ALA Therapy

For April Lancit, the path to founding ALA Therapy was paved with both personal and professional challenges.

As a Black woman navigating the mental health field, she experienced firsthand the limitations and shortcomings of the existing system – a system that often failed to provide culturally responsive care for marginalized communities.

April's own experiences growing up in a single-parent household fueled her passion for supporting others who faced similar obstacles. She recognized the critical need for accessible, judgment-free mental health services that truly understood the unique struggles of people of color.

It was this frustration with the status quo that ultimately inspired April to take action and create the practice she wished had existed when she was younger. Drawing on her extensive training and expertise in marriage and family therapy, she set out to build a space where clients could feel seen, heard, and empowered on their healing journeys.

At the heart of ALA Therapy's mission is a deep commitment to dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health in communities of color. April understood that for many of her prospective clients, the idea of seeking professional help was often shrouded in shame or mistrust – a legacy of systemic racism and inadequate care.

Determined to change this narrative, April and her team of certified therapists work tirelessly to create a safe, judgment-free environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of discrimination or misunderstanding.

Through personalized treatment plans and a holistic, mind-body approach, ALA Therapy empowers its clients to not just survive, but to truly thrive. Whether it's overcoming trauma, strengthening relationships, or breaking generational patterns of dysfunction, the practice provides the tools and support necessary for lasting transformation.

April's own journey has been one of resilience and growth, and she is passionate about sharing that message with the communities she serves. By openly sharing her personal story and the challenges she has faced, she hopes to inspire others to prioritize their mental health and seek the care they deserve.

Today, ALA Therapy stands as a testament to April's unwavering commitment to making a difference. From its humble beginnings to its current status as a respected, community-focused practice, the practice continues to evolve and expand its reach, always with the goal of providing accessible, culturally responsive mental health support to those who need it most.

As April likes to say,

"When you allow yourself to be authentic and vulnerable, you create the space for healing."

It's a philosophy that not only guides her own life but also serves as the foundation for the transformative work happening at ALA Therapy every day.
